Drugs worth ` 50.9 lakh seized, Nigerian arrested

In a major drugs seizure on New Year’s Eve, police raided a house in Korgao-Pernem and apprehended a 30-year-old Nigerian national with drugs worth a staggering 50.9 lakh.   

Addressing a news conference in the presence of a Pernem police team at the North Goa police headquarters in Porvorim, Porvorim DySP Edwin Colaco said a Pernem police team raided a house at Manshiwada-Korgao on Tuesday night and nabbed Ifechukwu David Madukwe with 309 gms of narcotic substance suspected to be cocaine valued at 30.9 lakh and narcotic substance suspected to be 200 gms of MDMA valued at Rs 20 lakh, all worth Rs 50.9 lakh.   

Police said this is a major seizure along the coastal belt of the State and an offence U/Sec 21 (C) & 22 (C) of NDPS Act has been registered.   

“This commercial quantity seizure has been made possible only due to continuous efforts of North Goa District Police,” said DySP Colaco.   

“As always, Goa Police has a Zero tolerance to drugs and staff of Goa Police is continually committed to take substantive action against
